More Delicious Irony

I’ve been reading about the economic history of our relationship with Japan for the past year. And I’ve just finished the article that will come out in our magazine Tierra Grande in April 2012. In previous blogs and speeches, I have suggested for years that it’s time for China to revalue their currency to end the enormous trade deficit with America.

Japan used the “cheap currency” strategy in the 1980s to increase their economy at our expense. China is currently doing the same thing and has been doing it for over 15 years.

Here is more “proof in the pudding.” Just a few days ago, Toyota stated it was going to start building the Camry in America for export to South Korea (see my blog of Dec. 9.)

Now, we get even more good news. Honda is going to do the same thing! Imagine that. American workers making a living and paying for their children’s college education by building cars for export to other countries.

The past two weeks have brought amazing good news to American workers. The moral of this story is that if we can get our trade partners to play fairly, American workers can compete successfully. Japan got the message in 1985. How long before we help China get the message?
